ATTN: Almond Coproducts Can Help Our Environment

Posted May 17th, 2018

Almond trees grow more than just our favorite nut! They actually provide four valuable products – the almond kernel we eat, shells that protect the nut and are used as livestock bedding, fuzzy outer hulls used as dairy feed, and the tree itself. At the end of their productive lives, almond trees can be ground up to improve soil quality or used for electricity generation.

The almond community has been putting these coproducts to good use for years and we’re now exploring innovative new applications. Take an inside look at this video from ATTN: to see some of the latest developments supporting the California almond community’s zero waste approach, using everything our orchards grow.
