Fight the Afternoon Crash with Super Tips & Recipes from Dawn Jackson Blatner, RDN

It?s a weekday afternoon and you are working hard in your office cubicle when you suddenly feel yourself dwindling away and loosing focus. Sound familiar? If so, you are not alone. In fact, according to a recent nationwide study1, at 2:58 p.m., on average, people across the country experience an afternoon energy crash resulting in lower productivity, which ultimately can lead to poor eating later in the day.

To tackle the afternoon crash, California Almonds has teamed up with Dawn Jackson-Blatner, RDN and nutritionist for the Chicago Cubs.

?No matter how busy you are or what your job entails, across the nation at about 2:58 p.m., people are facing the afternoon crash,? said Dawn. ?To combat the energy dip, I always recommend a smart and easy snack like a handful of healthy almonds ? their fiber, protein and good fat can help anyone seize their afternoon!?

Everyday Tips to Help You Carpe PM and Power Through The Afternoon
  • Caffeinate Responsibly: Caffeine in coffee can potentially mess up your sleep quality if consumed too late in the day, so instead, make a cup of matcha green tea, it has less caffeine than coffee and contains a compound called L-theanine to help with afternoon focus. Another satisfying alternative is my Golden Milk Latte recipe with almond milk and almond butter. It?s perfect for an afternoon pick-me up.
  • Almonds to the Rescue: Skip the sugar high and go for a protein crunch. Grabbing that office sweet seems like a quick pick-me-up, but you know from experience it will leave you with an energy crash. Instead keep a stash of energizing almonds at your desk. Want to sweeten them up? Pair them with freeze-dried strawberries.
  • Freshen Up: By late afternoon, it?s time to swap stale energy for a burst of fresh vibes. Brush your teeth, apply invigorating grapefruit essential oil on your wrists, and/or mist face lightly with water. Also sneak outside for a 90-second breath of fresh air? breath in for a count of 10, hold for a count of 10, breath out for a count of 10 and repeat this two more times.
