Toasting instructions for almonds

Preparation: 

CONVENTIONAL OVEN: Spread whole almonds in a single layer in shallow pan. Place in cold oven; toast at 350 degrees, 12-15 minutes (9-11 minutes for slivered and chopped almonds), stirring occasionally, until lightly toasted.

MICROWAVE OVEN :Spread whole almonds in a single layer on microwave-safe plate. Microwave on Hi power, 4-5 minutes (3 minutes for sliced, slivered and chopped almonds), stirring halfway through. Cool on counter.

I used the microwave method. The plate broke and most of the almonds "burned" at the four minute mark.

Simple and quick. Great results. Had to decrease the roasting time to 10 mins.

I tried toasting them both ways. I found that the oven made them just perfect, but had to change the cooking time to 9 minutes, stirring every 3 minutes. The microwave burned them in just 4 minutes, stirring them halfway through. The instructions were not clear if timing should begin the moment the almonds were placed in the cold oven or when the temperature reached 350 degrees.

I used microwave method and they turned out evenly browned and toasty. I didn't have to watch them constantly to keep them from burning. My microwave safe plate cracked. Perhaps it already was damaged. Next time I will use a paper plate.
