Growing Sustainability with Almond Board of California at FNCE
We can’t wait to see you at the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ Food & Nutrition Conference and Expo™ this year in Chicago October 21 – 24 and celebrate the Academy’s Centennial Anniversary!
Visit us at booth #1620 to taste some of our delicious almond-inspired snacks and be the first to get the new edition of our always popular perfect portion tin and matching reusable shopping bag.
Sustainability is our focus this year and we’ll be sharing information with you about almond growers’ efforts.
For example: did you know that almond trees grow multiple products?
In addition to the kernels we eat, almond trees also create hulls that serve as livestock feed; shells, which serve as livestock bedding; and the tree’s wood, which can be chipped and recycled into the soil or used in many other ways.
Since almonds are not sold with shells, pits and peels that means the almond industry–not the consumer–is responsible for, and able to take advantage of, high-value, beneficial uses of the hulls, shells, and woody material, rather than sending them to landfill.
We love to share all the ways we practice sustainability, so stop by our booth to learn more. If you can’t wait, check out our Almond Sustainability Ecosystem, which details all of the ways almonds are grown to be an economically, environmentally and socially responsible crop. And, this blog post offers 23 bite-size pieces of information about growing almonds sustainably. You’re sure to learn something new about almonds!
If you’re attending FNCE, be sure to stop by our booth to enter our #AlmondSustainability social media contest with a chance to win fabulous prizes. We’re looking forward to seeing many of you in Chicago!
