Growing Sustainability with Almond Board of California at FNCE

Sustainability is our focus this year and we’ll be sharing information with you about almond growers’ efforts.

For example: did you know that almond trees grow multiple products?

In addition to the kernels we eat, almond trees also create hulls that serve as livestock feed; shells, which serve as livestock bedding; and the tree’s wood, which can be chipped and recycled into the soil or used in many other ways.

Since almonds are not sold with shells, pits and peels that means the almond industry–not the consumer–is responsible for, and able to take advantage of, high-value, beneficial uses of the hulls, shells, and woody material, rather than sending them to landfill.

We love to share all the ways we practice sustainability, so stop by our booth to learn more.
