Almond Growers to Vote on Marketing Order
Itâs been five years since growers overwhelmingly voted in favor of continuing the Federal marketing order for California Almonds, and growers will vote again in a continuance referendum that will take place from Feb. 18 through March 7. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) would consider terminating the marketing order if fewer than two-thirds of the growers voting in the referendum, or growers representing less than two-thirds of the volume of almonds, vote in favor of the order. The Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) will mail ballots and voting instructions to all growers of record. These are growers who have produced almonds in California from Aug. 1, 2012 through July 31, 2013. Eligible growers who do not receive a ballot may contact Maria Stobbe by mail at USDA, AMS, 2202 Monterey St., Suite 102B, Fresno, CA 93721; by email atMaria.Stobbe@ams.usda.gov; by phone at (559) 487-5901 or by fax at (559) 487-5906. Please remind your growers to look for their ballots, and to vote!
