The Challenges of the 2014 Drought: Water Project Operations Briefing

2014 is one of California’s driest years on record, creating challenging conditions for operation of the state and federal projects that move water across the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta.

These conditions have resulted in greatly reduced allocations to project contractors. Similarly dry conditions were last experienced during the 1976–77 drought, a time when the state’s population was far below present levels, crop patterns in the San Joaquin Valley were different, and Delta fishery management was focused on striped bass.

The California Department of Water Resources and the Water Education Foundation are holding a jointly sponsored briefing on Wednesday, June 4, at the Sacramento Convention Center. Learn how this drought is affecting water project operations and conditions in the Delta, and the actions being taken to balance impacts to cities, farms and the environment. More information is available at the Water Education Foundation website.
