Excess Water Carries Food-Safety Risk

February 1, 2012

A major storm hitting the Central Valley carries two food-safety risks. First, overflowing municipal storm drains or drainage from nearby animal operations could contaminate your orchard floor. Second, the surging floodwater could spread waste deposited by pets or wildlife, potentially contaminating a wider swath of orchard floor. To be better prepared, make sure your Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) program follows the recommendations for orchard floor management.
