Get Your Plate in Shape
On the heels of National Almond Day in February, Almond Board of California (ABC) reaches out to registered dietitians and nurse practitioners each year during the month of March to commemorate National Nutrition Month. The theme for March 2012 is "Get Your Plate in Shape," and ABC is taking the opportunity to invite health professionals to “power up” their clients’ plates with almonds. The March e-newsletter for health professionals, which will reach approximately 10,000 dietitians and nurse practitioners, will feature ABC’s Power Breakfast recipe, a great way for health professionals to remind clients that almond butter makes a great addition to the breakfast plate.
The March e-newsletter is one of the first to be distributed since it was redesigned in December. In addition to a recipe that highlights the nutrition appeal of almonds, the new layout features two distinct pieces of nutrition news or teaching tools. The National Nutrition Month edition will feature ABC's Tree Nut Nutrient Comparison chart and the Portfolio Eating Plan section on AlmondBoard.com. The Nutrient Comparison Chart demonstrates that almonds are the tree nut highest in protein, vitamin E, fiber, calcium, riboflavin and niacin. The reverse side of this popular teaching tool gives clients and practitioners practical tips on how to measure the perfect 1-ounce portion of almonds. Finally, health professionals will be invited to visit the Portfolio Eating Plan section on AlmondBoard.com to learn about the research behind this cholesterol-lowering eating plan.
