Careers Principal Specialist, Global Technical and Regulatory Affairs The Almond Board of California is in search of a key addition to our Global Technical and Regulatory Affairs team, based in Modesto, CA. The Principal Specialist will assist in the establishment and cultivation of key government relationships in conjunction with the ongoing identification and monitoring of global technical/regulatory issues; oversee the development of position statements and market information; work with regulators and industry members on a global level in resolving import issues and other market access situations; and contribute to the development of mitigation strategies and evaluation of trade/technical issues. Apply here What you will be doing: Serve as staff liaison to the Technical/Regulatory Affairs Committee Prepare or direct others in the preparation of a variety of studies, backgrounders, reports, market profiles and industry advisories related to current trade/import and technical/regulatory affairs Oversee work with consultants and technical experts in monitoring export issues, tariff/non-tariff barriers, and in-country government affairs programs Oversee the development of ABC responses to USDA/FAS and other government agencies Monitor regulatory changes and proposals in markets that impact the almond supply chain Utilize import/export data and market analyses to prepare summaries of trends and to assist in developing strategies for addressing trade barriers and market access issues Establish and maintain relationships with federal, state, and international governments serving as a bridge between government and the industry Oversee development of country issue profiles, including on-going sanitary/phytosanitary (SPS) and technical barriers to trade (TBT) issues Represent the almond industry in selected professional and governmental consultations, associations, and global organizations (e.g. Codex Committees) With the VP, develop and co-manage relationships with the EU Commission and Member State authorities, port officials and other organizations (e.g. FRUCOM, Waren Verein, etc.) Prepare and present briefs for regulators, outlining and educating them on industry practices Our ideal candidate requirements: MA/MS degree in government, political economics, regulatory affairs or a closely related field, and 7-10 years of related professional experience Knowledge of international laws, regulations, trade agreements, governing bodies, and regulatory officials responsible for trade policy and foreign trade agreements Skill in communicating technical subjects to diverse audiences Why ABC?
