The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) requires that every five years, eligible almond growers in California vote on whether to continue their almond federal marketing order program, which is administered by the Almond Board of California. Marketing orders are initiated by industry members to help growers and handlers work together to solve problems and achieve marketing success. Key program areas for the Almond Board include domestic and international marketing, nutrition research, the collection and dissemination of industry statistics, production research and food quality and safety programs.
Ballots for the 2019 continuance referendum were mailed on August 5, 2019, to eligible growers and ballots are due to USDA by August 16, 2019, when the voting period will close.
