Bearing Almond Acreage Up 2% at 940,000

Click the image for a closer look.USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) issued its official report on California’s almond acreage on April 26, showing an increase in 2016. Bearing acres were reported at 940,000 acres, up 2% from 2015. Total almond acres for 2016 were estimated at 1.24 million acres, up 7% from 1.16 million acres the previous year.1

Nonpareil continued to be the leading variety, followed by Monterey, Butte, Carmel and Padre. Kern, Fresno, Stanislaus, Merced and Madera were the leading counties. These five counties had 73% of the total bearing acreage.

NASS’s almond crop subjective estimate will be released at noon on May 10, and the objective estimate at noon on July 6.
