In The Can! 2021 Golf Tournament a Hole In One

The 2021 class of the Almond Leadership Program hosted the third annual event in an effort to raise money for California FFA.

144 golfers grabbed their clubs and hit the greens at Dragonfly Golf Club in Madera, California on Friday, October 22. The scramble tournament is in its third year and is a favorite industry fundraising event for California Future Farmers of America (FFA) scholarships. The Almond Board of California’s Almond Leadership Program (ALP) came up with the fundraising idea several years ago and a member of the class chairs the event each year.

“Overall, the tournament went really well. We had a huge turnout which means a lot of exposure for future ALP classes,” said Nate Roberts, technical support researcher for Wonderful Orchards and this year’s ALP chair for the tournament. Support for the tournament peaked well before the shotgun start as organizers filled all the golfing spots and closed registration several days before.

The overwhelming response to participate proved, yet again, that the industry not only loves to support the future of our industry, but they love having fun at the same time

All the money raised from the tournament goes to the year-long effort of the ALP members – supporting California FFA. A full tournament, supporting sponsors and day-of fundraising efforts are still being totaled, but organizers say it will net well over $15,000. California FFA will use the donation to support statewide proficiency awards as well as scholarships for FFA members pursuing careers in the agriculture industry.

The 2021 ALP class will continue its fundraising efforts at The Almond Conference 2021 which is back in-person this year at the newly renovated SAFE Credit Union Convention Center. ABC is also bringing back the popular silent auction, another creation of the Almond Leadership Program five years ago. You can donate an auction item online and register for the conference at Almonds.com/Conference.

ABC is also actively seeking participants for the 2022 ALP class that will be announced at The Almond Conference. Interested parties can apply online at Almonds.com/AlmondLeadershipProgram

Special thanks to the many sponsors of the golf tournament, and the 2021 Almond Leadership Program sponsor, Bayer, for their continued support of the program.
