If there was ever a moment to be #mindful and present it’s now. It’s important to take a moment to reflect every day on what’s holding the body back, but most importantly, what’s pushing the mind and spirit forward, and internationally recognized yoga teacher and wellness coach Koya Webb is here to help! Focusing on holistic teaching for over 15 years, Koya understands the important role mindful eating plays when it comes to being intentional and managing stress during high-pressure times. Her purpose and core mission is to promote daily self-care and well-being.

“Despite the constant unknowns, create a daily flow that works for you and focus on what you can control,” said Koya. “Simple habits, like mindful eating, have a profound impact on my overall wellbeing. Nutrient-dense snacks like almonds are my secret ally to help me stay fueled and energized to be at my best.”

Koya believes small healthy steps like eating a handful of almonds can get you on your way to being more mindful while staying fueled. Being a mindful eater means being in the moment and very intentional with your snacking – taking the time to think about what your eating and why certain foods are being selected. It’s important to feed the body the nutritious foods it needs to keep it fueled, focused, and more present than ever – especially during challenging times which tend to amplify the overeating, stress, and anxiety.

Just remember, it all starts with you. Take a page from Koya on how to create intentional, healthy habits to keep the body, mind and spirit interconnected and well-balanced.

A Healthier You: Tips from Koya Webb

Koya believes mindfulness is the key to daily success. From snacking to movement to meditation, being intentional in every action taken will help you be at your best. Read more of Koya’s wellness tips below.

  1.  Map Out Your Day

It’s normal to feel overwhelmed by our day-to-day tasks and responsibilities. At home, you may be playing the roles of boss, teacher, and student simultaneously. I recommend creating a schedule to stay focused and prioritize what’s important. My daily schedule helps me keep track of appointments and accomplish my goals while ensuring I have time for self-care, including fueling up with healthy snacks.

  1. Keep Your Energy Game 100

Don’t let hunger get the best of you; know what you will reach for ahead of time so that you have the right fuel for the day. I always make sure I have a snack before I head to a yoga class or an appointment. A handful of almonds in a small bag or tin tucked into your purse or pocket can come in handy when you need a little “pick me up”. You become your best self when you are properly fueled, and it shows!

  1. Snack on Practical Portions

Too little or too much of a good thing can affect your mood, so make sure you are reaching for the ideal amount of nutritious food. I recommend a handful of almonds (or 23 almonds) for a plant-powered pump-up! Each one ounce serving offers 6 grams of protein, 4 grams of filling fiber and good fats to deliver long-lasting energy to your body and mind.

  1. Practice Mindfulness Daily

When we feel like we can’t stay on track, our stress levels increase. Whether it’s for two minutes or twenty, I recommend sitting quietly with your thoughts, clearing your mind by meditating, or taking a walk outdoors. Remain in the moment and appreciate the beauty that is you and all around you. We are constantly surrounded by noise, and it’s never been more important to make time to better our minds.

  1. Relish in the Fulfillment of Mindful Eating

By being very intentional with your eating, you see food as a way to take care of and nourish your body and that can have a profound impact on our overall wellbeing. Snacks that are high in fiber, offer protein and good fats are more than just nutritious – they are the secret ally for you to keep your own daily flow. For example, I regularly rely on whole natural almonds, unsweetened dried fruits, and a few pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds – putting them together in a simple trail mix is all I need when hunger strikes.

  1. Just Move!

Do you find yourself in back-to-back Zoom meetings or virtual learning sessions? Finding ways to move your body, be it dancing, yoga, a walk or a jog, (and don’t forget stretching,) are all excellent ways to show your body kindness and loveI often find myself dancing around to my favorite Beyoncé album. Go ahead, sing along and dance as if you are on stage with your favorite artist!
