ESSENTIAL DUTIES: The following duties are typical of those performed by employees in this job title; however, employees may perform other related duties. Disseminate agronomic information developed by the Research and Innovation department to growers, using outreach methods that drive adoption and are responsive to grower needs Engage with growers through orchard visits and field events, and connect them to ABC resources including the California Almond Sustainability Program (CASP) Coordinate with UCCE ANR, country farm advisors, and other local subject matter experts to conduct grower workshops with a focus within the Central Valley. Assist in planning and managing outreach activities, and represent ABC at events including field days, seminars, CASP workshops, Almond Leadership Program meetings, food safety workshops, water use efficiency workshops, agriculture trade shows, etc. Coordinate with other ABC staff to identify appropriate internal and/or external workshop speakers Other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: Basic agricultural systems; understanding of agricultural sustainability initiatives, and/or farming in California is ideal Grower outreach, education, and practice-adoption methodologies and tactics English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and accepted elements of writing style Spanish language proficiency beneficial but not required Skill in: Strong interpersonal skills to engage, motivate, and work effectively with a wide array of people, to devise and coordinate an effective grower outreach, education, and adoption program with strong communication and teaching skills Maintaining confidentiality of trade practices as made aware of these practices in the course of dealing with various growers/client groups Ability to translate technical information and disseminate best management practices related to the Almond Orchard 2025 goals Ability to translate irrigation technology into understandable and useful information for diverse clientele Communicating clearly, both in writing and conversation Principles and the effective practice of public speaking Effectively managing several projects and activities at one time to meet personal and departmental work deadlines Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships Reviewing data and preparing reports, charts, graphs, power point presentations, and other audio-visual for speeches, presentations, and written materials Utilizing Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and ability to learn, use and manage SharePoint, databases, and other software. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record Travel within California and occasionally elsewhere in the United States Attend and participate in industry related activities outside normal working hours Ability to perform work-related activities outside of normal business hours ILLUSTRATIVE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A typical way to obtain the above knowledge and skill is a combination of education and experience equivalent to: A BA/BS degree in agricultural sciences, communications, or a related field 3-5 years of professional experience in sales or business development preferred Minimum of 3 years’ professional experience with Pest Management (IPM) Principles or Irrigation Systems/Technology required Demonstrated experience in a customer focused role displaying effective interpersonal skills such as teaching, outreach, customer service, or sales PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS: The physical abilities involved in the performance of essential duties are: Sitting, driving for extended periods of time Working at a computer terminal for extended periods of time Vision sufficient to read handwritten and printed documents and computer screens Speech and hearing sufficient to communicate by phone and in person Manual dexterity sufficient to use a variety of office equipment and tools, computer keyboards, and to manipulate papers May lift up to 30 pounds (15 kilos) and manipulate heavier objects using dollies Field visits with exposure to noise, dust, odors, allergens, microbiological toxins, pesticide application, and mechanical apparatus in field and processing settings Travel over 30%; up to 50%; (primarily within almond growing and production region of California with frequent overnight stays) Regularly walking, stooping and climbing to inspect agricultural and handling sites, including climbing ladders and walking aerially such as on catwalks Regularly bending, stooping and climbing to retrieve or place materials for storage or transport Exposure to potentially hazardous conditions or safety hazards; i.e. regular inspections of hazardous materials or equipment.
